Jade Art Now at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show
For decades the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show in Arizona has been the Mecca for buyers and sellers alike.
It all started way back in 1955 when the Tucson Gem & Mineral Society, led by a group of mineral collectors and rock hounds, held a free, public exhibition at a local elementary school.
Such was the success the organizers were encouraged to up-grade the venu the following year and so began the Legendary Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.
Businesses and individuals from around the world now make their respective ways to this amazing event which encompasses over 50 separate shows, the duration spanning over 2 weeks, from late January until mid February.
What makes the whole experience truly memorable to the art buyer and collector is to find (those) spectacular original works exhibited by gemstone carvers throughout the many shows.
Jade Art created by a number of International Carvers, had been shown at the Manning House from 2001 to 2005. This was a show venue that highlighted the artistry and creativity of gemstone and jade carving.
The Friends of Jade Organization held their annual meeting at the Manning House, furthering the importance of this show to the itinerant jade collectors and enthusiasts.
The demise of this venue for this group meant regrouping for both the artists and the Friends of Jade.
One member, David Frederick's, offered his gallery "Antiquities, Plus" to the jade artists for the 2007 show the Friends of Jade was proposing to launch.
"Jade Art Now” had a successful run at the gallery, over the 7 day period. Sales were made, and collectors from far and wide made the trip to Tucson to buy unique sculptural treasures and contemporary jewellery carved in exotic jades.
Once again the Friends of Jade invite the public to the 3rd annual Exhibition of Contemporary Jade Sculpture and jewellery.
Jade Art Now 2009.will be at the Antiquities Plus Gallery, in its new location,
2752 Campbell Ave.
The new location is in the same block as the original gallery.
